OMEGA-3 = protects our brain and our arteries!


The Omega 3 fatty acids are essential, just like the OMEGA 6 and are present in the cell membranes and therefore have maintained the integrity. For this reason spontaneously say that they are the fundamental building blocks of our organic tissues and of our cells. Scientific studies have shown that a deficiency of omega-3 feeding induces a tendency to inflammation accelerating aging and increasing the dangers to health, especially the cardiovascular.


The National Association of Hospital Cardiologists (ANMCO), in collaboration with the Mario Negri Institute (Consorzio Mario Negri south), examined in a study, launched in October 1993, a sample of 11,324 people affected by myocardial infarction, dividing them into four subgroups. After a period of four years, in December 1998, patients treated with omega-3 showed reduction in heart attacks, sudden death, the STROKE and total mortality than those who had not received any treatment. These data confirm the hypothesis that had been formulated by two major American studies, the first done on volunteer doctors, the second performed on almost 85 000 nurses, which lasted 16 years and published in the prestigious journal JAMA Journal.
It is no coincidence that the populations of which is widespread consumption of fish, such as Greenland Eskimos, they tend to have lower rates of cardiovascular disease than others. They feed constantly fatty fish, from 5 to 10 grams of omega-3 per day, thus presenting a low number of deaths due to heart attacks.
The same goes for the Japanese, who consume an average of 90 to 250 grams of fish per day.
The question got to this point is how these fatty acids omega-3 are able to maintain healthy our heart and our blood vessels? Simply, they act on the blood in different ways and measures:
lowers the level of triglycerides and cholesterol
hinder the stiffening of fatty plaques avoiding the occurrence of clots
lower blood pressure
reduce arrhythmia
Many scientists attribute to omega-3 these healthy properties, especially when consumed as part of a diet low in fat, since they seem to benefit particularly noticeable in the case of stress or exercise.
The recommended daily dose is from 0.5 to 3 grams, and is able to reduce the risk of heart attacks and cardiovascular disease by 40%. In people who have already had the attacks, take small amounts of fatty fish two or three times a week lowered the risk of death by 29% for a period of two years. Scientific studies conducted in children fed with artificial food devoid of omega-3 have demonstrated that they had a view of less acute than those fed with breast milk. Despite the great importance of omega-3 and the recommendations made by experts around the world on the subject, many foods intended 'childhood they are currently lacking. While the low level of omega-3 in our diet is something that generates concern, from 'other large amounts of omega-6 that we eat every day contribute to aggravate the situation.
For every hundred grams of fish we eat, consume 5 ounces of chicken and 1 kg of red meat! A diet so full of red meat and other foods rich in unsaturated fats also stands to excessive doses of omega-6 than omega-3. Our diet, therefore, is biased from 10 to 25 times in favor of omega-6! This imbalance may be to 'source of inflammation and other disorders.

In light of this, the omega-3 should be part of the diet of everyone, man, woman and child, and the only way to have an adequate intake of these fats is to consume a larger amount of fatty fish, or resort to specific dietary supplements.
